Car Service Driver Runs Over Child While Dropping Him Off

A toddler in Long Beach died over the weekend as a car service driver was dropping him and his father off at their home and accidentally ran over the boy.

KTLA in Los Angeles reports that the man and his son were being dropped off at their Long Beach Home located in the area of Lei Drive and Polynesian Drive at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th.   According to a statement issued by the Long Beach Police Department, the little boy ran out in front of the vehicle.

“As the father and juvenile exited the vehicle, the father became momentarily distracted, and the juvenile ran in front of the vehicle,” police said. “The driver then pulled away from the curb, failing to see the juvenile in front of the vehicle, and subsequently striking him with a front tire.”

The authorities have declined to release the name of the victim at this time, pending notification of family members.

The car service driver remained at the scene of the accident and is in full cooperation with police. So far, no arrest has been made in the case. Officials have not named the company that the man was driving for at the time of the crash.

The accident is currently under investigation.
