In Southern California, we are blessed with a temperate climate that is ideal for going out and getting exercise year-round. In spite of the favorable weather conditions so many of us enjoy, however, a bicyclist was struck and killed after colliding with a motorist on Monday afternoon in San Bernardino.

KTLA in Los Angeles reports that the motorist has been identified as Harlean Byers, 80. Byers had been driving a Mercury Sable westbound on Baseline Street when they approached the intersection of Baseline and Crestview.
Police investigators at the scene said that Byers had the green light when an 87-year-old bicyclist was heading southeast and crossed Crestview in front of Byers’ vehicle. Byers did not see the bicyclist before the collision occurred.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene to find the bicyclist suffered critical injuries in the crash. Authorities have identified him as Andreas Moreno, 87.
Moreno was rushed to an area hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the hospital later released a statement indicating that Moreno had died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash.
Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department do not believe that speed was a factor, nor do they think that intoxication by drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.
No charges have been filed in the case.
