Getting behind the wheel while you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never a good idea. In spite of knowing this, thousands of people lose their lives in the US every year because of those who choose to drive while intoxicated.

A DUI driver from Washington State is responsible for the death of one Southern California woman and the injury of three other additional people after a chain-reaction crash. ABC Eyewitness News in Los Angeles reports that the multi-vehicle crash accident happened one 15 Freeway on Wednesday, June 5th at approximately 7:30 a.m. near Rancho California Road in Temecula.

California Highway Patrol investigators are saying that the dashcam video from a driver who was uninvolved in the crash shows the DUI suspect driving a black 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound 15 Freeway before colliding with another vehicle with their brake lights on.

The pickup truck struck four other vehicles, sending one of them airborne off the freeway and into a parking structure that is attached to Temecula City Hall.

An unidentified 44-year-old woman driving a 2015 Nissan Altima was killed in the crash. The CHP has not revealed the woman’s identity pending notification of her family.

Emergency crews from the Riverside Fire Department said in a statement that two people were seriously injured in the crash, one person suffered minor injuries and two others declined treatment at the scene.

The CHP has arrested Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Washington on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.

There will likely be additional charges filed against Caldera who was uninjured in the fatal crash.

The CHP said in a statement that it might use the video footage in its case against Caldera. The crash is still currently under investigation.
