Being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious charge at any time in any state. To face a DUI charge while also having a minor child in the vehicle can escalate that charge and add additional ones, including child endangerment.
Patch.com reports that a Murrieta man was arrested last week under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and for his role in a crash along Interstate 215 that left one person dead and another three people injured. One of those injured in the crash was a 7-month old infant.
According to a statement issued by California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig, the three-vehicle crash happened on Tuesday, June 16th, at approximately 8:38 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 215 in Menifee between Newport Road and Scott Road.
Investigators say that 24-year-old Bryant Martinez Colin was driving his 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at a high rate of speed when he collided into a 2004 Honda Accord. The impact caused a chain reaction crash, sending the Accord to rear-end a 2017 Ford Fusion.
Authorities say that the crash left the 22-year-old female driver of the Honda with moderate injuries, and her passenger, 26-year-old Nyrik Anderson suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. Anderson died a short time after he arrived at the trauma center.
Also injured was a 7-month old baby boy who was in the pickup truck with Colin at the time of the accident. The baby was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta with minor injuries.
