A home security video caught the head-on crash and the fireball that consumed both vehicles. Police believe the force was so strong that one of the engine blocks separated. The BMW bounced like a pinball, hitting a parked car and then a fourth car going south on Corbin. By the time the crashed vehicles came to a stop, five other parked cars were damaged.
The driver of the BMW died at the scene. Two othesr were taken to local hospitals.
Street racing on public roads is an irresponsible act just for this reason. It drags in non-participants, putting them at risk for injury and death. It also harms other people’s property. There are legal ways to race for speed that don’t involve public roads.
Our condolences go out to the family of the slain victim. We also hope the two injured people recover completely.
