Five people were injured in a police pursuit that happened in Santa Ana in late February. Among the injured was the suspect.
The Orange County Register reported that on February 27th, police officers observed a motorist in a Honda Civic commit a number of moving violations. When attempting to pull over the driver of the vehicle over, the driver instead tried to elude the police.
According to Santa Ana Police Corporal Anthony Bertagna, the chase which ended in the Garden Grove City limits began on 17th Street as it becomes Westminster Avenue. The suspect vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Westminster and Euclid Avenue, slamming into a Toyota SUV which had been heading southbound on Euclid.

A female driver of the SUV was injured in the crash. Described as being in her 40’s, she was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital. She was listed in critical condition. Also injured in the crash was a woman who had been in the front seat of the Toyota, two men who had been in the Honda and the suspect driver of the Honda. All were taken to area hospitals for treatment. No word has been released on their state or current condition.
The suspect driver has been identified as Enrique Ortiz, 31 of Whittier.
Upon a search of the Honda, Santa Ana officers found drug paraphernalia inside. Bertagna said that once Ortiz has been cleared by medical personnel, he will be placed under arrest for suspicion of felony evading causing injury to others additional related charges, and also for an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Los Angeles County.
