Accidents are a part of life with any number of factors contributing to its cause. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, along with speed, can definitely turn an accident into a tragedy.
Speed is one of the factors being blamed for a fatal crash that happened in Hermosa Beach early Wednesday morning. ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that the violent two-vehicle accident happened at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard at approximately 3:00 a.m. Both vehicles in the apparent head-on collision sustained significant damage.
Authorities say that one of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
A second driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their identity and current condition are being withheld at this time.
The Hermosa Beach Police Department are saying that speed played a role in the crash as well as one of the drivers involved being allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

ABC reports that the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway between 21st and Artesia Boulevard were closed and traffic re-routed while police investigated the scene and cleared the wreckage from the area. The closure lasted for several hours but was lifted at approximately 10:00 a.m.
The accident is still currently under investigation.
