Family and friends of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are still in shock after a deputy and his teen daughter were killed in a collision in Oregon while on a family vacation.
ABC in Los Angeles reports that Deputy Dennis Gill, along with his 14-year-old daughter, were killed in a traffic accident during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 25th, in Polk County, Oregon, near the city of Salem.
As of Sunday, officials were still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Deputy Gill’s 11-year-old son was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. However, the boy’s current condition was not available at the time of the report.
In a statement to reporters, Los Angeles County Sherrif Alex Villanueva said that Deputy Dennis Gill was with the LACSD since 2000. Gill worked at the Los Angeles County Jail’s Castaic facility as an officer of the Court in Pasadena. He also worked as a patrol officer in West Hollywood and Crescenta Valley during his 20 years with the LACSD.
“No matter what he did, Dennis was very well-liked by his peers and respected for the extra duties that he took on,” Sheriff Villanueva said.
In a Tweet, Sheriff Villa Nueva described Gill as a “compassionate, professional, helpful and respectful person.”
Deputy Gill is survived by his wife, Louise, and their son.
On behalf of the staff of the Simmrin Law Firm, we wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Gill family, friends, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department for their tragic loss.
