A motor vehicle accident can leave almost anyone shaken. For the person who caused the crash, the instinct to fight or fly can be almost overwhelming. It is crucial, however, to stay at the scene and render aid to others whenever possible.
KNBC in Los Angeles reports that two bicyclists and a pedestrian were hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Toluca Lake late Monday night. Eyewitnesses to the accident say that when they approached the scene to render aid, the driver of the car fled the scene.
According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident took place in the 10300 block of West Valley Spring Lane at around 8:00 p.m.
Police responded to the scene and spoke to eyewitnesses who told officers that a silver Ford Fusion with a Texas license plate hit the bicyclists and pedestrian. The driver of the Ford Fusion then gunned their engine and took off when others approached.
“He was trying to get away as fast as possible. He knew he was in trouble,” said eyewitness James Bergeseid. “I’m sure he was very, very terrified. “
The three people who were injured suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released any further information about their current condition.
An LAPD officer later spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the one involved in the crash and gave chase. The driver, however, was able to elude police and got away near the Universal Studios Area.
Police are still searching for the silver Ford Fusion with Texas plates. Investigators say that the vehicle would likely have suffered significant damage in the crash.
