A domestic that happened early Monday morning is being cited as being the cause of an incident that caused a crash into a San Diego cemetery and has left a woman injured.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the incident happened on Monday, August 19th at approximately 2:00 a.m. a vehicle crashed through the gates of Home of Peace Cemetery located at 38th Street and Imperial Avenue.
Officer Billy Hernandez of the San Diego Police Department said that a domestic dispute between a woman and her former boyfriend escalated and ended with the boyfriend crashing through the cemetery gates with the woman hanging on to the door on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
During the incident, several headstones in the cemetery were knocked down and damaged before the vehicle came to a stop.
Officer Hernandez said that the woman’s ex-boyfriend fled the scene, leaving the woman in the cemetery where police found her. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Her name and current condition have not been released.
According to the statement made by Officer Hernandez, the unidentified driver in the incident has not yet been taken into custody, and the SDPD is still searching for him.
