CBS in San Francisco reported that a 68-year-old woman died and four people were hurt in a three-vehicle crash yesterday in Antioch. No drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash.
Police stated that a vehicle was speeding north on Somersville Road just after noon. The car sped through the Delta Fair Boulevard intersection and crossed the center median. It hit two vehicles going southbound.
A cellphone video captured the aftermath from the offramp from eastbound Highway 4. Debris was scattered all over the roadway. The speeding vehicle took the most damage. Records state that the driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
However, his elderly passenger died in the crash, and another passenger in the vehicle has critical injuries. The drivers of the southbound vehicles had minor injuries and have since been released from the hospital. Traffic from the crash also caused a second injury crash according to the report.
Crashes like this are the reason why it’s illegal to change lanes in the middle of an intersection. Sometimes the road markings aren’t as clear as they could be, but unless there’s a pattern of accidents in an intersection, the cause is usually an inattentive driver.
Our condolences go out to the family of the slain woman.
