According to The East Bay Times, a spokesperson from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the victim, 64-year-old Kenneth B. Allen of Vallejo, had been involved in a minor collision with another vehicle near the Berkley Curve when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses to the fatal crash say that as Allen was getting out of his car, he was struck and killed by a dark green van or Ford F-150 pickup truck. The driver did not stop and continued heading westbound down the interstate. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
So far, the CHP has been unable to locate the pickup truck or the driver that fled the scene. Investigators did not obtain a description of the driver of the vehicle. Authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs played any role in the fatal crash.
The driver who was involved in the initial collision with Allen’s vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene of the crash. They were also said to have been in full cooperation with CHP officers.
The California Highway Patrol’s Oakland Office is asking anyone with any information about the accident to contact George Kelly at (408)859-5180.
