Stolen Truck Leads To Over Ten Injuries

Several people were injured in a crash in Lake Balboa which involved multiple additional vehicles; one of them a stolen pickup truck that was attempting to evade a police stop.

ABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that the incident started on Wednesday, April 3rd after police received a tip call from someone who was following a vehicle that they believed had been stolen. The suspect vehicle was reported to have been traveling on Victory Boulevard.

LAPD found the suspected stolen vehicle on Balboa Boulevard. Officers had attempted to pull the pickup truck over, but the driver instead tried to evade police and took off at a high rate of speed.  It was just a few seconds later that the stolen pickup truck crashed into several other vehicles at the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Vanowen Street.

The suspect driver fled from the stolen vehicle on foot.  He was later found and apprehended by police officers behind an area McDonald’s restaurant and placed under arrest. A total of three people had been in the Toyota pickup truck which was reported stolen from Marina Del Rey.

First Responders arrived on the scene at approximately 9:13 a.m.  The LAPD confirmed that 10 people were injured and were either passengers in the vehicles or pedestrians who had been in the vicinity before the horrific crash. Emergency crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department had to extricate one young woman from the wreckage of her severely mangled Honda with the Jaws of Life.  She was taken to an area hospital where she is currently listed in extremely critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Her identity has not yet been released.

A spokesperson for the LAPD said that a use of force investigation would be opened in connection to the case.  During the search of the pickup truck, officers found a gun which discharged during the search. No one was injured when the gun went off.
