For many new mothers, there is nothing more frightening than the possibility of their child being taken away, unexplained. Just the thought of child wandering off or being kidnapped by someone dangerous can send anyone into a panicked frenzy.
A man suspected of domestic violence led Los Angeles Police Department officers in a pursuit through the streets of Los Angeles on Tuesday night, taking an infant along with him.
KTLA in Los Angeles reports that a man driving a Toyota Prius was pulled over by LAPD offficers near the intersection of Burger Avenue and Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles. The incident occured on Tuesday, May 12th at approximately 9:00 p.m.
In a statement, the California Highway Patrol said that LAPD officers were unaware that the diver was wanted for felony spousal assault at the time. During the routine traffic stop, the suspect took off with an 11-month-old baby in the car.
LAPD and CHP officers pursued the driver through the city. Aerial footage taken by the Sky 5 helicopter shows sparks coming from a tire rim as the vehicle was being driven.
At the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Jefferson Boulevard at approximately 9:24 p.m., the suspect stopped the car.
After a brief standoff with law enforcement officers, the suspect driver stopped the vehicle and exited the car holding the infant. The man then surrendered the baby and himself to officers. He was placed under arrest. His identity was not released at the time of the report.
Officials were able to determine that the baby was safe and uninjured after the incident.
