Eight Injured In Four-Vehicle Crash

A total of eight people were hurt in a crash in South Los Angeles last week when a police cruiser collided with a tow truck in a four-vehicle crash.

NBC in Los Angeles reports that the crash happened on Wednesday, June 3rd, just before 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  Two LAPD  officers were inside their police SUV and entering the intersection when the driver of a tow truck inexplicably ran a red light and entered the intersection.

In a chain reaction crash, the police cruiser slammed into two other vehicles. One of the two officers was trapped inside his police vehicle, while the other officer was able to get out and lend assistance.   Los Angeles Fire Department crews had to extricate the trapped police officer from the wreckage of his vehicle using the Jaws of Life.

The injured officer was rushed to a local University of Sothern California Hospital in Los Angeles. He is currently listed in critical condition.  The driver of the tow truck is also listed in critical condition.  The other police officer is also reported to be in serious condition.

Several people who were inside the parked vehicles were also injured in the crash. All other injuries suffered from the other victims were reported as being minor.
