One person is dead after a crash along Interstate 80 in Solano County on Tuesday, November 5th, near Dixon. Investigators believe that impairment was a factor in the fatal accident.
Patch.com reports that the accident happened at approximately 10:42 p.m. when an eastbound driver of a 2007 Honda Accord collided with a slower moving vehicle that he was attempting to pass.
California Highway Patrol Officer David Harvey told reporters that the driver of the Honda, Jonathan Rosete. 23, of Sacramento, was traveling faster than the posted speed limit of 65 miles per hour and was attempting to pass a 2013 Ford Escape being driven by a 71-year-old woman.
While passing, Rosete’s vehicle collided with the Ford, causing it to overturn onto the shoulder of the highway. Rosete’s vehicle continued eastbound until it went off the road and became lodged in a clump of vegetation.
CHP investigators have determined that Rosete was killed on the initial impact.
Authorities have not released the identity of the 71-year-old woman who suffered only minor injuries. She was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville for treatment and was later released.
According to Officer Harvey, the crash is still currently under investigation. The possibility that the victim was impaired by alcohol before the crash has not been ruled out.
