During police chases, accidents are far more common than you might think. When someone is attempting to escape with law enforcement officers in pursuit, innocent drivers or pedestrians often get hurt. Serious and even fatal accidents have happened during the course of a police chase.
Patch.com recently reported on such a chase which left two officers with the Los Angeles Police Department and two other drivers injured on Wednesday, May 1st.
The chase began just before 10:00 a.m. in Encino when police spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.
The chase was interrupted by a crash that happened at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Avenue. The officers’ patrol cruiser struck two other vehicles during the chase. The allegedly stolen vehicle did not stop.
The two LAPD officers were transported to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries they sustained in the crash. They are expected to make a full recovery. The two motorists who were also involved in the crash were treated at the scene of the accident and released.
The suspect vehicle was not involved in the accident and was able to elude law enforcement officers. Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect vehicle.
The incident is still currently under investigation.
