Two suspects carjacked a vehicle and led Los Angeles Police officers on a wild high-speed chase through several cities and counties before being taken into custody this weekend.
NBC in Los Angeles reports that the pursuit began when California Highway Patrol officers attempted to pull over a motorist in a black Honda Accord for a malfunctioning tail light. The driver refused to pull over.
For more than two hours, the suspect driver and a passenger led the CHP through Fontana and Downey, then over the 10 Freeway to the 710 Freeway. At one point, the two men got out of the vehicle they had been in and attempted multiple times to steal other vehicles, including an 18 Wheeler.
They then got into the backseat of a black Nissan but got out again a short distance later. They were both eventually apprehended by police officers and placed under arrest.
Rudy Lopez, whose vehicle the two suspects got into told NBC that the two men approached his vehicle and asked if they could get a ride. Lopez, who had his mother in the car with him at the time, agreed.

“We didn’t think nothing of it until we crossed the first street light,” Lopez said, “Once we crossed the first street light, I heard a helicopter, then I heard two, then I heard three. Then I saw police cars. And then I’m like, I think we picked up the wrong people.”
Police interviewed Lopez and his mother to make sure that they had no connection to the suspects. Police later released them.
The incident is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported.
