Even highly-trained motorcycle riders cannot avoid every crash. All it takes is one wrong move from another motorist to put a rider into an unescapable position. That seems to be the case with today’s crash reported on by NBC 7 San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol told reporters about an accident that happened on Escondido Highway last Tuesday afternoon. A CHP officer was traveling on his motorcycle eastbound on Via Ranchero Parkway near Lomas Serenas Drive and I-15. A silver SUV turned into his path of travel and he couldn’t avoid the crash.
The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and onto the street. First responders took him to Palomar Medical Center for treatment. Both the SUV and the police motorcycle suffered serious damage and debris was scattered all over the road.
The driver of the SUV did stop to give a report, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Police are still investigating the matter and are speaking with witnesses.
You may have seen bumper stickers that say “Look twice, Save a life” before. Motorcycles are much smaller and quieter than other vehicles. Drivers can miss that there is one in their path and make an unsafe maneuver. We must all do better to watch for these vehicles.
