We tell our children to not play in the street because we know it is dangerous. We teach them to look both ways before crossing the road and be safe and responsible pedestrians because we know that our children will not be able to avoid walking forever. It’s better for them to understand the potential dangers and protect themselves. After all, everyone ends up walking along the road at some point, even if we own a car.
Unfortunately, no amount of safety training or good pedestrian etiquette will protect us from all potential dangers. And drunk drivers are the greatest danger we could face.
According to this Sacbee report, a pedestrian was killed in an accident. After the fact, the driver of the vehicle-turned-murder weapon was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The accident happened on Tuesday evening in Sacramento County’s Arden-Arcade area. It was around 6:30 in the evening when a GMC Sierra pickup truck struck a pedestrian, a man of unknown age, near the intersection of Arden Way and Watt Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup was 69 years old, and he stopped and cooperated fully with the authorities. He was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence. This landed him in the county jail without bail.
