Underage drinking laws are in place for a reason. Drivers in their teens will often overestimate their driving abilities or even forget that driving a motor vehicle is a privilege and not a right and carries certain responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to avoid drinking and driving.
The Orange County Register reports that on Tuesday, July 30th, a 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of alcohol-impaired driving after she crashed her vehicle through the gates of the James A. Musick jail in Irvine.
In a recent tweet on Twitter, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department showed pictures of a brown Range Rover SUV with significant front end damage from the crash that happened at 13502 Musick at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The metal gate to the jail can also be seen bent and lying on the pavement. The Musick Jail has been closed since July 18th for construction and improvements. During the construction, several jail staff members are onsite to provide security and other operational services such as laundry and cleaning.
Police arrested the 19-year-old female was arrested and taken into custody at the Orange County Jail. Her identity has not been released.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement saying that they are grateful no one was injured in the crash, however, reminded the public about the importance of not driving under the influence of alcohol and to choose a designated driver or to arrange for a ride home.
