The California Highway Patrol is looking into what may have caused a multiple vehicle crash on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hills that left two people dead earlier this month.
ABC 7 in Los Angeles reported that the fatal crash involving a total of seven vehicles happened near Butterfield Ranch Road on Wednesday, June 12th at approximately 8:15 a.m.
The CHP reports that two women inside a white sedan were killed when a commercial box truck overturned and crushed the vehicle that they were in. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.
Also in the vehicle was a 15-year-old boy who was also reported to have been injured in the crash.
Five additional vehicles were involved, and several other people were reported injured. Authorities have not yet released their identities or condition.
A spokesperson for the CHP said that investigators are still uncertain at what speed the vehicles were traveling but noted that there were no skid marks on the pavement Investigators are still trying to determine if there may have been a brake failure on the box truck just before the crash. The authorities are interviewing the driver of the box truck to get his version of what may have happened.
The accident is still currently under investigation, and the CHP is hoping that someone who was in the area of the accident and saw what happened may also be able to provide additional details to investigators.
