A wrong-way crash on the 210 Freeway in Monrovia on Sunday morning has left one driver dead and another seriously injured.
NBC Channel 4 in Los Angeles reports that according to a statement released by the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 4:40 A.M. in the eastbound lanes of the Freeway. A CHP spokesperson told reporters that a woman was driving her 2017 Chevrolet Cruze westbound at the Irwindale Avenue exit ramp. Eyewitnesses reported that the wrong-way driver traveled approximately five miles before going into the carpool lane and crashing into a 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck being driven by a 19-year-old man.
The woman driving the white Chevy Cruze sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released her identity pending notification of family members.

The force of impact forced the tan Toyota truck on its roof. The driver had to be extricated from the wreckage of his vehicle by emergency crews. He was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were considered life-threatening. No further information regarding his identity or current condition has been released at this time.
An investigator from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was at the scene gathering evidence to determine whether the wrong-way driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the fatal crash.
A CHP officer at the scene told NBC that the accident is still currently under investigation, and while there are traffic cameras in the area, they do not record.
