Over the road, trucking plays an important part in our nation’s economy. Thee large commercial trucks that transport goods for us every day are always present, but sharing the road with them carries a risk to other motorists. Based on sheer size and weight alone, when a passenger vehicle gets into an accident with an 18 –wheeler, the results can be severe or even deadly.

ABC Channel 7 reports that a violent and fiery crash unfolded near Palmdale Tuesday morning and has left three people dead. The accident happened at approximately 7:00 a.m. along the Pearblossom Highway near the intersection of the highway and 55th Street East when a northbound Nissan pickup truck collided head-on with a northbound 18-wheeler. Investigators at the scene said that the cab of the tractor-trailer rig burst into flames.
Two of the three occupants of the Nissan pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A third man was transported to an area hospital for treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered only minor injuries in the crash and is expected to make a full recovery.
County Sheriff’s Office investigators at the scene believe that the driver of the pickup truck allowed his vehicle to wander into the path of the semi-tractor trailer, causing the head-on collision. Impairment by either alcohol or drugs does not appear to have played any role in the crash.
The accident is still currently under investigation.
